Finished Magazine Shoot

As promised heres the final edit of the leather shoot. It was for our tongue-in-cheek entertainment in the arts magazine based in Scotland. Basically a cool fashion magazine with drinking dens in it for Scotland. How strange is it that we don't really have anything like that minus the Skinny? None that is really big anyway?? Hezza-Watt I'm looking to you....

Fashion Magazine

As part of our CAD class this semester we had to produce an online magazine which our group got far too overexcited with and collected enough content to make the Vogue September issue look like a pamphlet. Major cutting ensued and we managed to actually produce something we were reletively pleased with. This is the originals from the photoshoot, was based on ways of wearing leather but I'll post how we edited them later....

Sportswear in Fashion

So for this semesters Fashion Design for Function class we had to create a collection that was inspired by a sport & a high fashion designer, but would be sold in a high street store. Confusing I know, but we picked track & field as our sport & Jil Sander as our designer to go along with our boxy shapes and clean lines. Then picked French Connection to represent our clothes - hence the burgundy. All went rather well until we started having major cock ups with fabrics but we got there in the end!

Complete collection line up.

This is my design and yes that is a PVC jacket you are seeing before your eyes. Most stupid decision of my life, PVC does not like to be sewn!

PVC jacket has a sheer panel across the bust, in-seam pockets & zip front with over-exaggerated hood. Then leggings have sheer side panelling. DELIGHTFUL!

Works well as a collection in my mind but let me know what you think...I know the fits a bit dodgy in certain areas but try to ignore and look at the designs.

The 6 Triangle Project

Long time no post I know, but I have decent pictures to show you this time! We were given a project in our Pattern Experimentation class - not as horrific as it sounds - to construct a garment that hangs from the shoulders make entirely out of 6 right-angled and equilateral triangles. After I had actually established what exactly an equilateral and right-angled triangle was, I came up with a kimono cape design. I really enjoyed this class and since we were all using calico we got to dye or print our fabric which just made it even better - textile students eat you heart out! I tie-dyed mine, obviously cos what else would you do, and my flatmate and part-time youtube fiend Claire potato-printed strawberrys onto hers.

This Claire's design which is really cute and kitsch. After printing the strawberries she hand-stitched beads on so it replicated the pips and used a really cool texture lining.

This is my jacket. Not sure you can see the raised shoulders properly but they do sit up away from the body. Would of liked to make them more Lady Gaga-esque but we'll save that for next time.

Images are courtesy of Claire Cunningham and her brother's camera - blows mine out the water really.

My Favourite Object??

So back to Uni I go...it's actually much better than last year. My classes are a lot more interesting and we're getting to do a magazine again!! Been put in control again as editor so it's totally playing up to my control/OCD personality.
This photo is for our CCS class. We had to do a biography on ourselves, which I won't bore you to tears by posting it, but then we had to include a picture of our favourite object or something significant to us. Since I couldn't find anything deep, meaningful and slightly pretentious, I settled on my old faithfuls. La leopard print booties! Personally I believe they are an extension of my personality.....or just really, really cool.
But being bored on a wednesday night whilst writing the bio, my flatmate and I decided to turn the whole thing into a photoshoot. Better than a midnight Tesco run anyway.

Wedding Blues

Carrie in Vera Wang - in my opinion better than the Westwood she ended up in! Clearly why Big never got to the altar. Bloody Vivienne.

Had my last day a work yesterday, so sad! Have really enjoyed working there, but hopefully I'll get to go back next year. For those who don't know I've been working at Opus Couture Bridal Boutique - google it, it's brillant - felt I should write a post as an ode to Opus! So here's some of my favourite bridal looks, & yes for those who know me, I KNOW I don't want to get married - have many reasons which I won't bore you with - but I do love the pretty dresses! & the shoes, & the veils, & the tiaras.....
Princess Grace's Wedding Party

Vogue's "The Wedding Party"
Kate Moss's Wedding Party shot by Mario Testino - pure perfection, no?

Anja Rubik I think..
Jason Wu Bridal - this would be mine! Means I can wear AMAZING shoes...as per all about the shoes...

Right COCKTAIL TIME!!!

Have been working as a dresser today & tomorrow at a fashion event so in definite need of a cocktail or 3...

As I'm concentrating on all things bridal, if you are one & are stuck for something blue what about a cocktail, perfect non?

Bikini Martini

1.5 measures of Hendrick's Gin
1 teaspoon of Peach Schnapps
1.5 measures of De Kuyper Blue Curacao

Shake all the ingredients together in a James Bond-esque fashion and strain into a preferably sparkly martini glass. Enjoy whilst wearing floor-length evening dress.....or bridal couture.

Elbaz + Meisel = Genius

Found the new Lanvin A/W Ad Campaign video featuring Karen Elson & Raquel Zimmermann. Utterly hilarious - haven't stopped laughing for 2 days. Its so simple! But it really just shows that models can't dance. Shame really, they look so pretty. But the best part has to be Alber Elbaz at the end - pure brillance.

Enjoy

Lanvin has to be my favourite BIG fashion house, yes I think it does even beat Chanel & Kaiser Karl. The clothes just ooze pure luxury, & are clothes you'd actually want to wear.

Have also realised that I've been getting quite a few comments from people so I'd just like to say thank you very much & if you like what you see then please follow me & hopefully I'll take this blog to Paris one day!
Also sorry for not replying, something's going on with blogger and it won't let me. I'll keep trying though.

THE Dress

I finally finished it! Party was on Saturday night and just after midday I managed to finish it - so pleased sewing under stress was out my life until I realised, I only have another week til I go back to Uni.
The inspiration for this dress came from one by Marchesa, so I found a basic, basic dress pattern adapted it and adding my own. Took a bloody age though!
Party was good though still suffering today although Lounge made me a special birthday cocktail....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Frustrated!!!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!

Sorry for the lack of posts - the dress is consuming me, but all of a sudden the tension in my machine's going all wrong, I have a day to complete it so this is what I'm feeling like.
However in an aid to calm me down I found these behind the scenes pictures from the Chanel A/W campaign - gotta love the pink eyebrows....perhaps a trend??

Just love Freja Beha Erichsen - so versatile as a model.
