Surrealism

Top : Primark; Skirt : By Me; Shoes : River Island; Bangle : Primark; Cuff : Accessorize

Continuing with our Surrealism theme, we next had to make a skirt portraying the theme.
Mine was meant to be an upside down skirt but then kind of turned into a peplum skirt and I actually prefer it.
Although it doesn't scream Surrealism, the more I look at it the more I think I would actually wear this out.
And thats surely better than making something I'd never be seen dead in??
Heres some examples of successful Surrealism in skirts.....

What do you think of the Surrealist concept? And while we're on the topic of outrageous clothes, what wouldn't you wear?

Something Surreal

Shirt : Created by me; Wet-look Leggins : Topshop; Shoes : M&S.

This would be the divine shirt I re-arranged for Uni in our first semester.
We had the topic of Surrealism which was all very interesting and really let us go mental with our designs.
Mine didn't turn out too bad, cuffs on shoulders, a shredded shrit added on, you get the idea.
We also had to present out shirts in a fashion show which was amazing fun getting to show off our designs exactly how we wanted them.
Again sorry for the blackberry fuzziness, iPhone maybe next time?? Shots are taken round the side of my house in the rain! Yet again.
Here some other white shirt inspiration....

Stars and Stripes

Today started out sunny before once more errupting with rain so in an attempt to encourage the weather I brought out my new stars and stripes top courtesy of Topshop.
Floppy Hat, Top : Topshop; Skirt : Primark; Belt : River Island; Shoes : Office; Watch : Swatch

Apologies for the quality of the pictures but right as I was about to take them my camera died and then I discovered I'd lost the charger.....why do things like that always happen??
So the photos are taken by my sister on le blackberry so they look a bit grainier.
The stars and stripes kind of remind me of Chanel's S/S 2008 collection.
If only we were all as cool as Daria......

Frill of the Month

This month I've been looking back on past award ceremony styles and found this gem of Alexa Chung. I'm still undecided as to whether or not I actually like her, her style is overrated but I can kinda see what she's trying to do.
She's here at the 2008 Elle Style awards - always one of the best awards shows in my humble opinion - and this is an example of a time she's got it right for me. Helped by the fact she's wearing that Luella dress that was seen everywhere the minute it came off the runway.
Now you too can re-create the frills Luella vintage style with this Topshop number from their new Dress Up range. At £80 its a darn sight cheaper than the original unless you happen to shake the dust off one in your local Oxfam....but that remains unlikely.

The Met Gala

The Met Gala was last night and the frocks were out in force. The good, the bad and the frilly. With a few fierce characters thrown in too....
Vera Wang in her own design, showing how a subtle frill can work well
Serena Williams showing how it doesn't....Loo roll holder anyone?
Andre Leon Talley being Andre Leon Talley.
Gisele Bundchen looking fabulous in red - yes I've decided that counts as a frill too!

Ashely Olsen in Vintage Dior taking frills to another level. Although the huge puff ball sleeves may be a little much for some people but the more I look at her the more I like it.

Karolina Kurkova in Gaultier Pairs but I'm not really sure what its meant to be?? Kind of reminds me of some wierd frilly-legges ninja?
Sunglasses again Michael???
And finally: Tom Ford/Carolyn Murphy....what were you thinking????

Royal Familiarities

Well what did we think? Fabulous dress eh? But didn't Pippa Middleton completely steal the show?? As we all know now Sarah Burton for McQueen did an amazing job in creating a dress that will remain timeless and beautiful....can't wait for the calls of new brides at work tomorrow...."we were looking for something similar to Kate". Apparently Net-a-Porter's going to have their version finished by 6pm tonight, oh nothings sacred or unique for long.
However our heart now flutters for a certain Prince Harry - the way he giggled with the flower girls makes me think he's perhaps soon-to-be husband material, but to the more important factor.....what was Princess Beatrice wearing on her head??? Gaga much?
Beatrice's interesting head gear choice, like wise Princess Eugenie's take on spring florals.....
Oh look its Princess Beatrice's head gear in another life!
Where theres a frill, theres me! Notice how discreetly Burton managed to sneak them in. Twitter has been non-stop with how Pippa has "stolen the hearts of the nation" and egging on Prince Harry, Former England Cricket Captain Michael Vaughan tweeting, "Make a move this afternoon Harry...Lovely gardens at the palace..." being a particular favourite.
Her dress - made out of satin (good choice - it's a steamers dream!) looked magnificent against the abbey setting. I first thought when she stepped out the car how classic it looked and she obviously looked at the late Princess Grace for her inspiration.
Princess Grace at her own wedding.
That kiss before the Prince said, "OK one more then"
And to end a final look of my future husband....well he's already got the outfit.....now for my dress......
